(The Dove)

South of Lepus and Orion, Columba the Dove is a fairly bright constellation. It was invented by a Dutch theologian called Petrus Plancius in the 16th century.

  NGC 1808:
A raging cauldron of star forming activity at a distance of 40 million light years away, this galaxy has been extensively scrutinised by the Hubble Space Telescope. It is possibly being distorted by a nearby galaxy, NGC 1792.

  NGC 2090:
A faint magnitude 12 galaxy, the core is the brightest part with a old stellar population. The gaseous appearing spiral arms contain mainly young stars possibly because of a high rate of star formation.
